There are many ways to make money online. But if you are a type of person who is more on using his head rather than his hands, domain speculating and trading can be the right online venture for you. Unlike from blogging that needs a lot of hard works producing fresh and quality contents regularly, domaining needs a lot of brainstorming and predicting. This article will guide us on how to make money online from buying and selling domain names.
What is a domain name?
In this website, I am using the domain name MoneyRelease.com. A domain name is a recognizable name and address for a particular website on the Internet. The important use and purpose of domain names is to provide easily recognizable and memorazible names to numerically addressed Internet resources or IP addresses. Domain names make one’s visit to a website easier by typing identifiable names rather than assigned numbers in the Internet browser’s URL address bar.
Where can we get a domain name and how much does it costs?
We can have domain names by registering them on ICANN accredited registrars like GoDaddy, Enom or Namecheap (I usually register at Namecheap for it’s nice prices and easy domain push feature). An available domain name (one which is not yet taken and registered by other people) can be usually registered at $10 annually. To get a domain which is already taken can be difficult to achieve. But you may do so by offering the owner to sell it to you. If you don’t have the money to buy it, you can make a backorder from registrars so that you can buy and register it in case that domain expires and will not be renewed by its owner.
How can we earn from domain names?
Making money from domain names takes a lot of speculation skills and talents. Earning profit means you can be able to sell domains names at a selling price higher than its total cost. If you were able to register a domain name at $10, then after 1 month, you were able to sell it at $40 – that’s a profit of $30. However, if that domain is only sold for $20 after 2 years of holding it – there is no profit ($20 minus $20 total cost of 2 year registration) in that case. The cost of selling domain names also includes other charges like fees on transfer of payment (Paypal fees), broker’s fees and other fees.
To increase our chance of profiting from domain name trading, we should make sure that we can be able to grab domain names that are short, brandable, generic, memorazible, top level domains (.com), and receives natural traffic for its name. We must also ensure that these names will not give us future troubles brought my trademark lawsuits.
We can also make money online from domains through domain parking or Google Adsense for Domains. Domain parking is the process of hosting your undeveloped domain names in the servers of domain parking companies like Sedo. These companies place relevant advertisements to your domain names and give you commissions for every visitor’s click on those advertisements. This means, the more natural traffic your domain is receiving, the more income you may earn. This is also the same with Google Adsense for domain names. The only difference is that domain parking may have bigger cuts to your advertising commission income than Adsense for domains.
Where to sell domain names?
Finding buyers to our domain names may be the hardest part of the process. End-users or individuals and companies who really needs a particular domain for their particular use, are the ones who can buy your names at a higher price. However, they are the ones who are also difficult to find. But if you are really determined, you may do so by Googling potential companies who may use your domain name. If you also own the .com of a particular domain, you can contact the owners of the .net or .org of that domain and offer them your domain name for sale.
Aside from end-users there are also bunch of resellers who buy and sell names to make profit. These users are easier to find although they will offer you cheaper prices than end-users will offer. If you are tired of sending emails to potential buyers, you can just list your domains for auction at websites like Flippa, Ebay and Namepros. Flippa and Ebay will charge you commission and success fee but they can give you greater chance to sell your domain at higher prices. Listing domains at Namepros is free but don’t expect to sell your domains at a higher surplus. If you own a premium domain name, you may want to hire a domain broker, who is a professional one that may be able to find you the right buyer for your name at your desired profit. You can also find professional domain brokers at Sedo.
Other Tips
1. Register domains that are short, generic and brandable
2. Always make background research on domains before you register or buy them. This is to avoid having a domain with negative backgrounds (previously used as a pornography site, previously blacklisted by Google, et cetera)
3. Watch out for trademarks
4. Always read and be updated with what’s happening to the domaining world.
5. Research, brainstorm, research, brainstorm
